Tucked into the lively stretch of NW State Street in American Fork, this Mexican spot offers casual, comfort-driven dining centered around authentic street tacos and quesadillas. The menu highlights a variety of meats—from tender suadero and al pastor to lengua and cabeza—cooked with care and served in traditional styles that attract both locals and visitors looking for a quick, satisfying bite. Alongside tacos, quesadillas come with options that range from just cheese to combinations featuring grilled steak, pork sausage, or brisket, all accompanied by classic sides like rice, grilled onions, and pico de gallo.
The atmosphere here feels relaxed and cozy, accommodating everyone from solo diners to groups and families with kids. It’s a no-frills setup with counter service and no table service, making it easy to pop in for lunch, dinner, or even a late-night snack. The space is spacious and accessible, with features in place for wheelchair users and plenty of free parking nearby. The friendly buzz often comes from those stopping by for a quick bite or a casual lunch break, where meals are prepared quickly but with a homemade touch.
Most visitors tend to appreciate the straightforward, flavorful approach to traditional Mexican fare, especially the mix of sweet and savory elements in dishes like al pastor. Beverage options like Mexican Coca-Cola and horchata complement the food well. While staff may not always be the most outgoing, the overall experience balances out through the quality of the food and the welcoming environment. Whether you’re seeking a sit-down meal or takeout, this spot fits well for anyone craving genuine local specialties without the fuss.

"The food was just as good at any sit-down Mexican restaurant but for less money."
"Great prices, clean facilities, fun atmosphere, and extremely delicious food."
"The place is great and the stuff are nice and service is fast"
5 Overall, the service is good, the cashiers aren't very friendly, but the food is very good: tripe tacos, pastor, suadero, any meat you want, affordable prices, and the place is spacious.
5 A great Taco Tuesday location. Al pastor is king here.
5 Our go to Mexican plate when we want tacos. My personal favorite is the Al pastor because of the sweet & savory combination. My husband loves the lengua as well & he always gets the grilled veggies. Their horchata is always yummy same with the hibiscus My only complaint is they call out the number in Spanish so if you don’t speak Spanish you won’t know yours is ready!!
5 We had a great experience here. Our food was prepared quickly & the street tacos were insanely good! The meat was tender & so flavorful. Highly recommend for a delicious & inexpensive bite!
5 I came here for a business lunch and it was great. I ate something super spicy though that burned like a madre. It was good though.
5 Hands down the best restaurant pick we made on our roadtrip. Very clean, spacious and inviting atmosphere. Our food was prepared swiftly and the quality and taste was unmatched! Definitely going to make Don Joaquin’s a regular stop moving forward. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
5 Super good food and super good service. They moved very quickly to deliver, even when completely crammed full of customers. I'm definitely worth a visit and will be a second one for me soon.
5 Staff members are so friendly and provide excellent customer service! The food is delicious! My favorite are tacos al Pastor, chorizo, lengua and Green burritos. So glad we found out about this Mexican restaurant. Don't miss the Taco Tuesday deals... 1/27/26 Update, I keep going on Taco Tuesdays and the night shift manager and kitchen staff are so friendly and make my family feel welcome every time. Food is great as always and make sure to try their Flan...delicious
